EDiMAXEW-7811UAC AC600 Wireless Dual-Band USB adapter with 5 dBi Antenna

I bought this to replace TP-Link TL-WN851N Wireless N PCI Adapter, which I had problems with.I'm very happy with it. My range is significantly improved over my old card, the drivers seem to be much better too (I can actually connect to an 802.11n network at wireless N speeds now!), and the latency has dropped a lot as well, making it a much better wifi card to use for gaming online.I've seen a few reviews below criticising the card for not delivering the speeds they were hoping for. Firstly, it is a little cheeky to not list the Tx speed as 150mbps. But in fairness, you'll never actually achieve 300mbps coming in. With any connection, quite a lot of the bandwidth goes into the overheads needed to send data. Even a cabled ethernet connection, running at 100mbps, will in reality only deliver about 80mbps actual transfer speeds because the remaining 20mbps is required to make the connection work. There are similar overheads involved in wireless transfer rates too. Now throw in potential interferences (other wifi networks, walls, electrical equipment etc.) and you begin to realise that speeds will tend to diminish in normal circumstances.Wireless-G claims to get 54mbps, but I've never seen any card of mine get above 20mbps. Similarly, this card has given me an output of 70mbps, which I think is pretty good.Overall, I think this is a solid purchase, and I think some of the negativity in other reviews owes as much to false expectations as anything. If you really need super fast speeds, try using 1Gbps ethernet or maybe the plug-in ethernet options out there.

Replaced a Netgear WPN311 because I became frustrated with software problems associated with the WPN311 that I was unable to resolve, with an Edimax EW-7612PIN 300Mbps Wireless 802.11b/g/n PCI-E Adapter with 3dBi High-Gain Detachable Antennas. Followed the installation instructions and worked with no problems from the start. Performance with Windows XP Pro 32-bit rock solid and no software problems such as I had with the Netgear WPN311. Good signal strength and connection speed. A bonus is that installing it in a PCI-E slot has freed up a PCI slot. Recommended.Addendum: Have since attempted to run this device under Windows 8 Pro using latest software (Win 7), although it runs, I found it doesn't like my new Windows 8 PC and caused it to restart every time I booted it up, although after the restart is worked fine. Very strange.I have now replaced it with a different brand which works well with Windows 8.

The reception is not as good as my phone's wifi. The driver for Linux is a joke. It's a driver for old Kernels and won't compile with recent Linux distributions. It seems to work well in Windows.

This is a great little product that adds wireless to a desktop PC, via the internal card slots. Importantly, it is the faster wireless type N compatible, as well as the usual b/g.I had a lot of difficulty setting this up on my Win7 PC, the manual being no help as at first it would not 'see' the transmitted internet wireless in my home (unlike the ipad etc). I found that my zone alarm anti-virus/firewall was the offender, blocking the product (other users have suffered from kapersky firewalls too).I had to un-install the zonealarm firewall, install the Edimax adaptor software, then re-install the zone alarm firewall. This took me all day to solve!In summary, when installed this is a great product; robust internet connection and does not use up a USB slot but Edimax need to provide better advice on their quick start guide eg remove certain firewall software. hence 4 stars

It was a good product, came on time, quality packaging but after a month it stopped responding correctly and then the antenna section broke away from the USB connection when it was removed from the PC for testing on alternate devices to try and diagnose the problem, found out that both the company and amazon don't accept returns on it despite it having 1 years warranty

I have the the V1 of this already (the EW-7612UAn) which works perfectly with a WD Live Media Player, but was snaffled for use in a PC.Bought the V2 which currently (11 Dec 2012) is not supported by the WD Live and will not work. So the V1 went back to the WD Live and this V2 was used for the PC running Windows 7 64. It will not use the drivers for the V1 but is supplied with a CD which I did not use, as I prefer to get the latest drivers from the manufacturers website.The unit was plugged in, the V2 drivers installed and a good, strong, steady signal received. This has several solid walls between it and my router and it works without any problem.I wouldn't hesitate to get another as for the price they cannot be faulted.If you need it, the MAC address is printed in white on the metal USB plug. I had to fish out my magnifying glass for that. But then I suspect that's just my age...

I bought this Wireless PCI Adapter for my gaming PC which sits behind the TV in my lounge after we moved our so it could be plugged directly into the main phone socket rather than into an extension socket.To be honest I wasn't expecting much, but so far the performance has been almost flawless. I've even tried moving my PC upstairs to the bedroom and the signal happily reaches with a full signal strength from around 20 metres away and through the floor. I don't use the wifi for online gaming, so can't really comment on its effectiveness for that, but download speeds are plenty fast enough and streaming Netflix and Love Film is flawless in Full HD.Overall a highly recommended product.
