Of course I haven't tested for effectiveness however I will rate the package overall. It is very light weight and fits hidden in the palm of an adult. The key ring quick release is a handy feature. Unfortunately the safety feature is practically non-existent. This product must be treated as a weapon and be kept in locked storage when not in an adult's possession. Any child from a toddler up could easily activate it because the safety has no lock (detent or otherwise) to prevent accidental activation. It arms easily while carrying it in a pocket or purse. I am saying this so you are aware of this device's features, not to deter any responsible person from purchasing, carrying or storing it with appropriate care.

I bought these at my college aged daughter’s request. She wanted some thing to Carrie in her backpack for safety when walking alone to classes in around campus. Size is perfect for her hand and it is compact enough to fit in any pocket to conceal. I had her try it out to be sure she knew how to use it and she said it sprays pretty far. She is overall happy with the product. One note…I had to purchase this for my daughter because I live in a state that allows delivery. She does not!
