Great for situations with no wifi

Wanted to get a solution to cast/airplay without having wifi. This was a great solution. Got rid of the long hdmi wire and this was easy to tuck away. Connected it to my projector. Easy to setup with my iPhone and windows laptop. Great solution.

Doesn't work at all.

Absolutely horrible. Gives you a qr code or a website to go to, to connect it to the WiFi. That website doesn't exist so there's no way to connect this to anything. Useless, complete waist of time and effort. I'm returning this asap.

Not 5G, very finiky but passable

I really wanted this to work all the time. I've experienced all the bugs the other reviewers discussed. In the end, after 2 weeks and getting it relatively working once in a while, it's gonna be a pass for me on recommending it to others unless you can deal with eventual stuttering. It's too picky with why or how it acts up. Whether its the restarts because it gets firey hot or it forgetting the wifi hotspot you spend 20 minutes getting to connect to, it's always something with this thing. One day I had it streaming smooth and audio was smooth. How I did it: I had tried connecting to 5G but its only 2G, so likely if you're router is 5G this thing won't even see it and you'll be thinking its broken. I set up a 2G broadcast finally (an hour gone trying to get 5G network) and it connected, and I connected and casted with my iphone. Iphone had to be on the same exact 2G network. Not an extended one, the same broadcast line. Stutter city here we come. Smooth for a while but then chug, chug, stop. Like freezing on a frame stop. Then I turned off bluetooth on my iphone. Much better. It seems to not like bluetooth signals in its path. And the iphone seems to not know how to cast right with bluetooth on. That was one day. It was a good one too, i streamed stuff. No real delays. Thought I fixed stutter city. The next day the wifi part gets hot and it begins to slow down streaming, stuttering and what not, until it goes black and restarts itself. Not even a freeze this time, just restart. Then I wait for it to reconnect. Connecting to wifi requires a bit of information that is not on the user interface -or the instructions. Because once you set your password to your wifi router in, it immediately connects and kicks you off its little cast network. So you then have to realize, (because there is no dialog or instruction to this) that "Oh, now I connect my phone or desktop to the network its one and cast." Simple enough but might get people in loops of not knowing what to do or thinking the thing is broken at that point. By the way, this could of been remedied by a better user interface on the thing and better instructions. But even then it's gonna tank out from the chip its using. Who knows, theres no support or company to reach out. Maybe some thermal paste on the innards would work. Anyones guess.tldr; it works when it works but you might be tinkering with it a bit to get there:

I Was Hoping for More – Important Details to Consider Before Buying

Before purchasing this adapter, make sure your monitor's USB port can provide power. The adapter requires a power supply, so if your monitor doesn't have a USB port or the port doesn't supply power, you'll need to find an alternative power source for the USB cable, or the adapter won't work.If you're looking to buy this adapter to expand your laptop's screen to multiple monitors, then performance is a major concern. The adapter only supports a refresh rate of 60Hz only at a resolution of 640x480. If you're aiming for 1920x1080, the refresh rate drops to 30Hz. Why does this matter?! Because at 30Hz, your mouse pointer will move sluggishly, which can be frustrating, especially for tasks that require precision or, at the very least, something faster than 1990s dial-up speed. While this adapter might be fine for basic tasks like mirroring your phone screen on a TV, I found it lacking when using it with my laptop on a monitor. That said, it does perform better than other USB to HDMI adapters I've tried, but it still leaves room for improvement.

It may be necessary to set up using your laptop or computer.

Once up and running, I found this device to be an effective way to stream YouTube from phone to TV. Installation instructions are marginally adequate. Heres's what I had to do where I have active WiFi:Connecting to Casttv-C90CPhysical Setup:1. Connect dongle to TV HDMI port2. Connect dongle USB cable to either TV USB port or USB power block.3. Turn on the TV and set input to the dongle HDMI port.4. Insure that the blue home screen of the device appears on the tv.5. Note in the upper right corner of the screen that a red “X” appears on the symbolic links between the phone symbol and the dongle symbol, and between the dongle symbol and the WiFi router symbol indicating no connections. The message “Ready to connect
” appears at the bottom of the screen.Network Setup:Now the task is to connect a browser to the network of the Casttv-C90C device. I could never get the Chrome browser on my phone to allow the connection as it was deemed “not secure”.1. Using a laptop or computer with WiFi, connect to the Casttv-C90C WiFi network.2. Open address 192.168.69.1 on a browser. It takes the device a few seconds to respond.3. When the connection is successful, the red “X” disappears between the phone symbol and the dongle symbol the opportunity to connect to your primary WiFi appears on the browser screen.4. If your WiFi network name does not appear on the screen, click on “Re-scan”.5. From the list of “Available Networks” on the screen, click on the name of your WiFi network.6. You are now presented with a request for the password of your network. Enter the password and click on “Connect”.7. When the dongle connects to your primary WiFi, the red “X” reappears between the phone and dongle symbols and is removed from the link between the dongle and the router symbol.8. The message at the bottom of the tv screen is “Ready to connect
”.9. Reconnect your computer back to your normal WiFi.
