Great sealer

Excellent sealer. used on maple post timbor treatment. cured within minutes, and was perfect for my desk. very strong VOC odor. after curing, leave outside in the sun for a few hours to ensure that the VOC is dissipated.

I know this must be a great product but the smell will knock you out and does not go away very quickly. So if this is an indoor item it will need to a lot of airing out time. It needs several coats to fill oak grain. I ended up using aquacoat and had better result with no smell.

Penetrates extremely well. Dries very hard. Smells like fiberglass resin.

I'd say it's the same viscosity as a thinned varnish. To test it I picked a section of our deck that was in pretty bad shape. Cracked, some rotting, etc. I dry-brushed the area clean with a stiff bristle brush. Then indoors I poured a couple of ounces in a small plastic cup. You never want to expose an open bottle of UV curing resin to any sunlight ad it can ruin it. I used that cup to slowly pour the resin (it's a one-part, no mixing resin) onto the area to be treated and used a small disposable brush to spread it around. Whatever brush you're using is going to be ruined when the resin cures, so cheap is best. Don't use a foam brush - it sucks up too much of the resin (waste of $$$) and catches on splinters, etc. I used one of those dirt-cheap disposable brushes designed for flux.I made sure to get the resin in all the cracks and crevices. You can use duct tape to form a dam or plug holes from beneath - but keep in mind the glue will stick to the cured resin. Electrical tape works if you can get it to stick. Curing took several minutes on an overcast day, but because some of the resin went pretty deep I waited a full day to test it.Where it penetrated the deck had a satin finish. Where it pooled it was high-gloss. The area looked wet. All of it was rock-hard. I was able to save the center of a step that would have been really difficult to repair. The stuff is pricey, but wor emergency repairs, especially in the middle of nowhere, on a boat, etc. it's great. It also cures with a UV flashlight.Just use in a well vented area - the odor is really strong.

Perfect for outdoor use for the last 3 months...

The weather has transitioned from extremely hot to super wet and rainy here in Southern California and this product has held up well used on an exterior redwood gate that was refinished back in September. It had many large cracks that were sealed with CA glue and finish sanded before applying this UV sealer.Solarez was applied inside the garage utilizing only overhead lighting and a partially open garage door, but this stuff was pretty strong in odor ( not noxious and causing dizziness), even though it is rated as low VOC. It was tolerable with a organic vapor filter worn during application, since I was applying "indoors". Application was easy and done with just a disposable 3" chip brush and transitioned outside for a quick UV cure, then resuming with an additional repeat coat to ensure coverage and penetration. It's been just over 3 months and the sealer has held up well with a translucent BEHR stain sealer on top of this after a quick surface scuffing with 220. This UV sealer does sand nicely once cured and did not clog or gum up the sandpaper (3M purple stuff). The final finish looks great with the large/ deeper grains being sealed up on the 19 year old redwood! I'm hoping the finish will help slow/ prevent UV degradation and further hardening or possibly even cracking of the wood. Only time will tell, but this stuff works great on some of my leather crafting wood tools and small woodworking tools to prevent moisture absorption and maintaining dimensional accuracy from swelling wood.

Special purpose finish

Obviously there are many ways to finish wood. I have used everything from tung oil to Krazy glue depending on what I was trying to accomplish and sometimes, what I had on hand. This is another good option.A very quick curing (because curing is triggered and finished by UV light from the sun or a special purpose flashlight) and tackless finish. My experience is to use it as you would any finish-- thin coats, a quick sand until you have the look you are trying for.The product says it works exceptionally well on oily woods and that makes sense. It is as much or more of a sealer than a finisher. But it can serve both purposes.I like working with it. As others say, best to do so in a well ventilated place, it stinks until the smell dissipates.
