I had one of the first Lego Technic motor sets back in the 80s, when I had to get it by mail order and wait 6-8 weeks. This set is definitely a step up, though while Lego products tend to have good documentation, this set came with none.My 9-year old niece was able to work out most of the controls on her own in any case. The transmitter worked up to a distance of at least 20 feet and through a couple of walls before it started to get intermittent. The controller works well for tank-style movement, with reversal controls for each motor. The motors seemed to run very close to the same speed. She's been busy integrating the motors into other projects she's already built.

This kit included everything listed plus two pieces of axle 1L with tow ball packaged with the remote to use as control levers. I did not previously have this style of remote, and although it does not include speed control, the IR receiver does support that feature and works with remotes that include it. I tried this receiver with such a remote and found this one is much more responsive than the other receiver I have. Everything else functions perfectly as well.This kit seems just a little bit expensive for a kit with only two M motors, but I think the good behavior of the IR receiver more than makes up for that.

When installing the batteries there is burning smell coming from the 3rd battery soring that is different from the rest..

I got this for 7 yrs boy. He was happy but he hasn't put much energy on is as it's still pretty hard for him to use it. It's such a cool concept for being creative. Hope we'll start helping him or doing it this summer. Everything looks good. Ill update if there's a problem.

Even though different brand from Lego, this product is totally compatible with Lego. It snaps right and lines up well with Lego pieces. It was not difficult figuring out how to use despite us having no previous experience. That said, my older kids do not seem to care for it. I guess Daddy's gonna be the one to enjoy this toy. Or maybe one day the boys...As I mentioned earlier, we are novices at this but so far so good, it's been an enjoyable product.
