The second painting I varnished was fine with neon paints and once dry
I was slightly concerned the first time I used it on a painting with quite a bit of green in it. I thought maybe the varnish was removing some of the paint. It actually turns a greenish color as it dries! The second painting I varnished was fine with neon paints and once dry, WOW! The colors were super intense.I’ve had the varnish for 6 days now and it’s 3/4 gone. I will be ordering more immediately.Thank you for a great product and a great price.

Wood Varnish - Odorless
I used this to varnish (seal) the inside of a wood storage ottoman that I made with my Dad. I store extra bedding in there, and the "raw wood" smell wasn't great... it's not cedar, it's plywood and pine. I have researched so many different kinds of varnsih, and settled here for both cleanup and cost. I'm so happy I did.I used a sponge "brush" which in hindsight wasn't the best choice. The absorbent nature made application a pain in the behind. Next time I varhish something I will be sure and use a bristle (traditional) brush. BUT once it was all applied I was happy with the results.Note: When first applied there is a little bit of an odor, that to me resembles what school glue (elmer's) smells like... It wasn't gross or overpowering, but I was a little worried it might not go away. I let the varnished wood dry overnight. In the morning when I went and checked it out, zero odor. Literally no detectable odor. It's been about a week since I finished the project and just before I wrote this review (minutes ago) I checked again... no odor. Super pleased. Also cleanup is a breeze - only need water.

Makes acrylic painting much easier
Works great as a paint finish but I especially like it using with my acrylic paints, mixing 20% volume of sargents and alttle water as a medium and still get the preservative effect. Thus avoiding the final finishing application. It also brightens the paints colors!

Great purchase for an acrylic painter
This clear acrylic medium is making the water scenes come to life! Great purchase for an acrylic painter!

Saved the acrylic painting
Saved me a lot of frustration... First of all product dries clear. People , who wrote it is foggy just did not wait enough ( it takes about 20 min for fog to be gone), so when you first apply it- it looks like it is in a deep fog, but 20 min later coat is clear and strong.I used washable acrylic by accident on my painting. And painted some oil parts on it. Once I realized I used washable paint- I did not know what to do. First I tried varnish spray. It did not help much, acrylic was still "washable". I tried sargent gloss and it worked.Today I applied it onto the oil painting as it has some uneven spots ( shiny and very dull). Yes, you can use it on thinly painted oil, I called Sargent 800 number and I was told I should be Ok. So, I am glad I found this product. It works for what I needed so far.

Good stuff, large bottle, and inexpensive!
I purchased this to finish paintings on canvas. It works very well. You need to make sure you use the proper brush to avoid leaving streaks in the finish. It's a very large bottle and will probably last me 20 years, so thay makes me very happy. I gave a 4 out of 4 stars because the product shown here is a clean white, and the product that arrived has a yellow tint to it. Not a big deal, it still works great. I would recommend this product.

Once the gloss dries: YOU WILL LOVE THE OUTCOME.
I found this gloss to be compatible to all other higher priced ones I have used in the past. I’m extremely happy with the end product.I only used 20% of the 16 ounce bottle for a 40”x40” canvas painting. For large areas I suggest applying the gloss with a paint roller in 12” or so sections then quickly and smoothly finish off with a 6” wide brush with one continuous stroke from top to bottom. And remember: don’t get upset or panic when you apply the gloss and your art work looks ruined under a purple thick haze. Once it dries you will love the finished product.

The best Acrylic Varnish
Best of the many many acrylic varnishes I've tried. This can also be cured in oven - try around 300 degrees for 30 minutes - makes art work on hard surface completely water proof (and dishwasher safe). It is available in a larger size which I'm now keeping a supply of. Only negative comment is that it does not produce a particularly high gloss - if that is what you need, a spray will probably work better. But for a hard coated, clear and very protective finish, this is great.

Lovely product, but not for thick layers.
I love this product, dry relatively quickly, spread nicely, doesn't have any strong odor and for now, seem to be quite durable. But I found a few odd things that potential buyer might want to know.1-This product is transparent, but the transparency is slightly yellow. You won't see it appear, until several layers, so if you just one or two you're good, but if you want to give some kind of water effect or anything requiring several layers, the yellowish tint will appear. (I'm aware this is probably not this product intent, hence why I didn't knock off more stars, just warning if you intend to try like me to give it too many layers.)2-It has glitter/shimmer inside it. It's very faint, but it is noticeable if it's over a pale color, or in the sunlight. I personally actually love it, it had a nice touch, but I think it might not fit everyone's use because of it.

Don't buy if you live in a cold place
I have a feeling this product became frozen during its travels. There was a frozen chunk that encompassed the opening. Once that was removed I found the product was lumpy no matter how long you stired or tried to break up the clumps. Definitely a let down.

It might have been a good product if it hadn't froze before I got it
Must have froze before I received it ,both bottles were lumpy and could not use them. Cut the bottles put them in a blender ,they mixed ok but we're too gritty to use. I threw them away ,could not return after I cut the bottles. Lesson learned do not order liquid in winter.

Good for selected projects.
I have found this product does have some solid clumps in it (not winter right now so it isn't the cold). I have not used this on my paintings. I have found it works well varnishing my clay projects though. I can easily get the clumps off the clay as it is visible. On a painting, I would not recommend this product unless you were mixing your paint with this to gloss up the paint or give more of a coloured glaze look to projects. I used this to dilute a blue acrylic paint I used on a wood crate. For what I paid, it has been worth it for me. Just as some others have said, be cautious of the product if you are to buy it and what you choose to use it for. I pour it into a plastic saucer prior to applying. I watch for the clumps. It may be to much drama for some, but for some projects this item is fine.

not happy
Non yellowing ?!?!? I have to say im pretty frustrated, my white has yellow spots, and even though I have a good brush, it has brush marks everywhere. Everytime i would go over it would just be worst, screwed up my hole painting, now im not sure how to fix it. No instructions on how to better use the product, i used it as a finish, worst idea ever! Comments seemed great, i dont know why this happened with mine.

Gritty product, ruins painting
Product arrived gritty and chalky. Having never used a varnish before, I read the instructions to apply as a top coat. Product ruined my painting (which had been done long in advance). As I had never used before, did not realize the consistency was not the norm. Now have white lumps dried onto my completed painting.

Perfect
I love this product. I use to seal garden decorations that I don't want to have a toxic finish like the inside of bird bathes, feeders, and houses. I highly recommend and will buy again for sure!

Very happy with this product
Very happy with this product. I’m using it for acrylic pouring and it gives a really nice shine to the paint. I’d definitely buy it again.

Great finish for crafts
No smell, fast drying, have used over mod podge to keept it from being sticky, I have used it watered down on burlap so I could cut out shapes without too much fraying, have used it over crochet items for christmas ornaments, also I painted on plastic canvas then applied a coat of this varnish so the paint would stay on, worked great. Overall this is a really great acrylic finish.

The product is good
The product is good. However sometimes I notice some solid pieces of the product on my work as I add it, so I just make sure I remove them. Overall, I like the product.

Great for the price
Worked great tho the bottle did not last long. Did work to make a nice glossy finish for a few of my projects. Will say that you may want to let anything set for awhile before applying. Applied a bit early and had to fix a couple small spots before applying a second coat due to smudging and some pulls on the paint under it.

What was expected.
I mix this in with acrylics before doing latex pours, along with a pouring medium, or use it to gloss a finished product. Have already re-ordered multiple times. Decent value.

worse than bad
ruined 3 painted objects. I didn't know that this varnish had to be used immediately [maybe that was what the problem was, but, it shouldn't be]. The 1st item had large hidden clumps in it. Since I had never used liquid varnish before, I hoped it was going to blend into the dried object. I was wrong. The next time I used it as a pouring medium. I hadn't noticed initially that the mixed paint had become clumpy. I painted 2 more objects, using a variety of colours. When I let them dry, they were unusable paintings. Am now looking at liquid varnish retail at the local paint stores.
