The one bright notion anyone had was casting Glenn Close as Disney über-villainess Cruella de Vil; her flashing eyes and angular features are a perfect match and do credit to what is one of the most indelible animated characters Disney has ever created. The story remains essentially the same, focusing on Cruella's plot to kidnap the puppies of a young married couple (Jeff Daniels and Jolie Richardson) and make them into a coat. But the dreaded John Hughes, who wrote this script, fills it with sadistic slapstick and far too few genuine laughs. The human actors work hard, but to little avail; thankfully, there's a passel of puppies to regularly steal scenes when the going gets dreary--although there are only so many laughs to be had from inappropriate dog puddles. --Marshall Fine

Great movie
This is an oldie but goodie. The Dalmatians are cute, but I love the Airedale in the movie that helps the puppies out of their situation. I guess I'm partial to Airedales because I had one at one time.

We use the prime video in our household alot. I watched this with all my kids it was a fun family movie night.

I recently purchased both this movie and the original animated "101 Dalmatians" on DVD and they both came to my house even the day(s) the vender(s) said that they would arrived I AM PLEASED!!!!!!!!

Not All Bad...
Yes, the classic Disney animated version was better, but this version should not be shunned. The story's still good, the scenery of London and its surrounding lands are nice, and the cast is generally well-chosen. Of course, we all know who's the best... ...Yes, Glenn Close steals every scene she's in. And why shouldn't she? Close makes Cruella de Vil the controlling, malicious, cigarette-smoking, fur-crazy villain we all know and love. In fact, I dare say that this Cruella is better than her animated counterpart...Glenn Close can just create that kind of three-dimensional presence. The rest of the cast was good too, though not as memorable, except maybe Jasper and Horace, played by Hugh Laurie and Mark Williams respectively. Their antics and arguments were mostly funny...by the end, they were as fed up with each other as with everything else and it showed. I just wish the filmmakers didn't feel the need to hit us over the head with the fact that the pair, especially Horace, weren't too bright...let the slapstick speak for itself. The updates to the story weren't bad either. Roger Dearly, played by Jeff Daniels, is now a videogame designer, an occupation definitely not in existence when the animated film was made. All the cars and houses are pretty modern. While it can be argued that all this makes the film more dated, I don't care. I watch it for the humor and the puppies. This is a relatively new take on something Disney made a classic. Go ahead and check it out. Enjoy.

Good value. My kids love these films. Glenn Close IS Cruella. Great that a lot of the cast is British in keeping with the original book.Gerard Depardieu is very funny.
