Ogden Nash is a favorite of myself and my son. I ordered it for his birthday.

This was purchased as a gift for my 92 year old mother. A baseball fan of 9 decades who grew up rooting for the Brooklyn Dodgers and since their defection to the west coast, a true diehard Boston Red Sox fan. To say she has a soft spot in her heart for some of the old greats of baseball would be an understatement, although she might draw the line at any who played for a certain team wearing pinstripes... In any event, she also has been a fan of Ogden Nash and therefore found this gift to be a very special treat indeed! The illustrations and clever verse were a perfect distraction for her at a hectic Christmas gathering... When you get to be 92 your shopping list is short, so I felt like I won the jackpot when she smiled with delight as she looked through this book!

I first remember reading Ogden Nash's Lineup for Yesterday in one of the Fireside Books of Baseball back in the late 1950s. I enjoyed it so much I memorized the entire lineup and still can quote the entire poem from memory. The illustrations in this book are great and this book is wonderful in introducing youngsters to both poetry and the greats of the game from long ago. In addition to a caricature drawing of each player there is also a short biography of each player as well. I'm glad this poem was brought back to life for newer fans to enjoy since the Fireside Books of Baseball are long out of print. Now we need someone to come up with an updated version for players of the past 50 years. We can start with A is for Aaron.

This is a charming and nostalgic baseball book. Like Ogden Nash's poetry, the book seems to be for kids, but it's not. Will be appreciated by anyone who knows the classic ballplayers. Bought one for myself and my older brother.

In our house, we adore Ogden Nash. And baseball. Put them together and you get heaven in a book. Highly recommended for all baseball loving families.

I bought this book for a minor leagues baseball player who is now in his 60's and his response "spot on".

It's just perfect. I bought it to add to my dad's baseball memorabilia, but couldn't resist reading it first. If this isn't the best way to learn the alphabet, I don't know what is. The pictures are beautiful and fun and the pages of facts about each person/player in addition to the little blurbs for each letter bring it all together. Love this book so much!
