Description

  • Add a light, dry jingle sound to your cymbals—5 pairs of zinc jingles mounted on a light metal ring activate as you play your cymbal to give you a subtle tambourine effect —the zinc jingles provide a dry tambourine sound
  • Place directly on your cymbals—with a 4 1/2" opening, you can place the Meinl Dry Ching Ring directly on any hi-hat, crash cymbal, effects cymbal, or cymbal stack to blend a new dynamic into your playing—no wing nuts or mounts required
  • Safe for any cymbal finish—this lightweight accessory weighs 4.3 ounces and is safe to use on any cymbal finish from fully lathed briliant to raw hand hammered
  • Pinpoint response—the same type of rivets you would find on a jazz ride cymbal hold the jingles in place on the Dry Ching Ring—this allows the jingles to fully activate and ring right along with your playing
  • Great for recording—if you're in need of a quick way to layer your cymbal sounds while tracking, using the Dry Ching Ring in the studio will deliver a dialed-in mix of high end tambourine frequencies without overpowering

Fun textural element for any drummer

I bought a CRING Ching ring mostly out of curiosity, figuring that if I didn’t find a use for it, I’d only be out three fancy Starbucks coffees. When it arrived, I was pleasantly impressed with the ingenuity and simplicity of the design. Jumping right into weekly band practice, I immediately found that it became another interesting texture option with a lot of versatility. Held in the hand, it serves as a quick and easy tamborine option for sizzling swells and accents. Placed on the bell of a ride cymbal, it evokes the sizzling sound of a riveted ride, albeit slightly different. Used on a crash, it turns the cymbal trashy and harsh in a musical way. You can even plop it right on top of your snare to have automatic accents for all your snare hits. The real fun is when you drop it on top of your high-hat cymbal and start playing with your foot. A light action on the pedal doesn’t jingle the Ching ring at all, allowing for a restrained hat accent. Digging down with a harder stomp makes the Ching ring sound out like a classic hi-hat mounted tamborine. Adding a swirl to your stomp causes the Ching ring to undulate on top of the hat, adding a sizzle in addition to the tamborine action, giving yet another possible texture.Best of all, I can pull it off between songs, move it from one place to another as needed, hang it on a spare pair of sticks when not in use. It seems quite durable, but even if it breaks or gets lost - I’d easily buy another rather than the three cups of fancy Starbucks coffee.

I KNOW IT'S INSANE BUT I LOVE THAT CRAZY CHING RING THANG!

OK, this product is being reviewed way after the fact which is most often a good thing as time usually tells all. I own two and use them exclusively on both of my hi hat set ups - 13.25" K Custom Hybrids and 14" Sabian HHX X-celerators. As any drummer knows, these are quality cymbals yet I never remove the Meinl Crings from my hats which must indicate I like them a bunch. True. I play jazz/fusion style and they add a certain mild "chinggly" sound I've come to expect when I play hats. I've tried them on other cymbals; rides, crashes and EFX types where they fail completely IMHO. (Too much dampening going on.)After reading other reviews I think the bottom line here is you will either love them or hate them depending on where you use them, your style of play and your ear. I guess the question is: do you feel like betting fifteen bucks they'll be a winner for you?

Adding a whole new high end crisp sound to your hi hat cymbals...cool!

This Ching Ring really adds an additional dimension of high end crisp beats for high hat cymbals. I use them on a pair of 12" hi hats which I use (with sticks or occasionally with hands) along with a cajon fitted with a bass drum pedal. This type of percussion set-up is ideal for small acoustic groups. I even use a 2nd ching ring on a ride cymbal sometimes for an additional unique sound keeping a rhythmic beat. Both set-ups are ideal as a softer volume, higher tone "drum kit" for acoustic guitar and ukulele groups. But the ching ring also adds a bright crisp sound that cuts through while being used on my 14" hi hats with a full drum set. I consider it a fun and inexpensive investment for a cool, different cymbal sound. It somewhat dampens your cymbal sound but at the same time brings out the higher end ring of your cymbal with the quick tamborine jingle added in.

The best of both worlds!

I bought this for my son for Christmas. We were both anxiously hoping it would arrive in time to use on his first gig...It Did! Being a set drummer myself, i can appreciate the thought Meinl put into combining the jingle of a tambourine and hihat WITH each stroke! Before, your choice was one or the other which i thought created an awkward sounding groove as one voice dropped out while playing. And its easy to use and un-use for those tunes that dont lend themselves to adding a tambo sound. Win win.

Must have, versatile tool

I really like this. I use it predominately on my hi-hat and it gives a real nice accent to stick strokes and offers differing effects with closed/open hats or even if striking the actual metal ring. I am not a fan of riveted cymbals and that's what this sounded like to me when used on a ride or crash but I am genuinely surprised at what a complimentary effect it had on the hats. For the price this is a gem.

This little wonder added so much sizzle and spark to the hi hat when used on some of our tunes!

This little wonder added so much sizzle and spark to the hi hat when used on some of our tunes! It's like getting brand new cymbals. It can be used on the hat and ride. It really opens up so many sonic avenues, and for the price you can't go wrong. I bought it for the rehearsal kit at my place, and the drummer wanted to take it with him for his home kit. I let him do just that and purchased another one! Get one, you won't regret it!

So simple and sounds great

The thicker ring makes it bounce more with the foot pedal than the thinner Mylar rings. I think this ching ring is even more responsive than my Meinl Cymbals HTHH1BK Mountable Hihat Tambourine, and it is out of the way and never interferes with my stick hits. Although you cannot use the ching ring as an individual tambourine (hitting it directly with the sticks like the HTHH1BK), the "ching" accent you get with the foot pedal on the hi-hat is exactly what I was looking for. It can also be used on other cymbals (or even on the snare) where as the HTHH1BK is made only for the hi-hat. Great purchase, very happy with it.

Great addition, subtle effect

Great addition to your tool kit. Adds a nice chick to closed HH notes and subtle texture to open HH notes or foot playing. You might accidentally hit it a few times when you first start using it, especially if you use 13" or 14" HH's, but you'll get used to playing around it pretty quickly (of course you could hit it on purpose in some circumstances too). It's useful across a number of genres, and overall probably worth having around for most people who play live in my opinion. I can't speak to how it works in the studio.

Great addition to drum set

Best ten pounds I’ve ever spent on my acoustic drums. I’m using them mainly on hi hats and they give a lovely added ching sound, not tinny at all. Can obviously work on the ride and crash too. Well made from Meinl, at this price every kit should have one!

Amazing!!

Meinl no defrauda.
